Unlike previous years, the harvest was abundant but quantity does not always rhyme with quality. In Bordeaux the weather was uneven but the overall quality of the vintage remains quite good. The wines may lack charm and balance. However the Pomerol pull superbly their game, they are sublime. The best 1950s in Bordeaux are Latour, Margaux, Haut Brion, La Mission Haut Brion, L'Evangile, Lafleur, La Fleur-Pétrus, Le Gay, Latour à Pomerol, Petrus, Vieux Château Certan, Cheval Blanc, Figeac and Soutard. For Sauternes the year is wet but the Indian summer saves the harvest. Climens, Coutet, Suduiraut, Yquem remain the most successful. In Burgundy as in Champagne, the production is abundant but the low quality and the wines lend themselves rather badly to the guard because too diluted. For the Rhone Valley it's a good wine year.
