1940 Vintage wine
1940 wines, a satisfying vintage with good wines
A fairly decent vintage for the Bordeaux and Burgundy winegrowers, but much less qualitative in the Rhône region.
In Bordeaux the 1940 vintage is distinctly better than 1939, but the wines remain of uneven quality. Some red wines are attractive, such as château Mouton Rothschild 1940, Cheval Blanc 1940 and La Mission Haut Brion 1940. In Burgundy, red wines are fine and light. Among the greatest successes of this vintage, the Domaine de la Romanée Conti offers wines with a rich bouquet and a beautiful finish. The Domaine de la Romanée Conti La Tâche 1940 and Richebourg are delicate and elegant. Finally, the red wines of the Chambolle Musigny appellation also offer great wines.
The wines are generally of poor quality in the Rhône Valley. Harsh weather contions wiped out the crops.

The 1940 vintage is a great way to please someone you love
In addition to pleasing those born in 1940, opening a 1940 Bordeaux, 1940 Burgundy or 1940 Grand Cru Classé is an intellectually interesting process. The 1940 wines were made in the midst of the war with the attendant difficulties, including obtaining corks and bottles of wine. To help you choose your bottle of wine, expert notes (Robert Parker, Jancis Robinson, JM Quarin) are available when they have tasted the wine in the past. All of our 1940 bottles of wine are in stock and dispatched same day for next day delivery.
