Our verdict on the 1900 vintage: a legendary vintage for Bordeaux wines. The Bordeaux region was blessed with perfect weather conditions throughout the year and during the harvest. The wines were very good, whatever the appellation. It was an undeniably excellent vintage, with high yields. A great year for Sauternes, which are very successful. They are rich and powerful, well-structured and excellent for laying down.

In Burgundy, on the other hand, the 1900 vintage was far less qualitative. The region suffered several stormy episodes and heavy rains, damaging vines and affecting grape ripening. Despite this severe damage, yields were nevertheless satisfactory and wine quality was quite good, although sometimes slightly diluted.

In Champagne, the weather was highly contrasted and produced very good results. The harvest was fine and relatively abundant. The quality of the 1900 Champagnes is very good, but a little uneven.

The Rhône Valley was also a success that year. Dry white wines are exceptionally long-keeping.

Among this vintage‘s most successful red Bordeaux wines are Châteaux Ausone 1900, Lafite 1900, Latour 1900, Margaux 1900 and Château Léoville Las Cases 1900. For white Bordeaux, we recommend the Chablis appellation. 

For Sauternes 1900, we recommend Château Filhot 1900 and Château d‘Yquem 1900.

For 1900 vintage Champagnes, we recommend Krug 1900, Boizel 1900, Lanson 1900, Roederer 1900 and Ruinart 1900.
