Our opinion on the 2018 vintage: a qualitative and quantitative vintage. 

In Bordeaux, unstable weather conditions in winter and spring impacted a few chateaux. However, the summer was hot and optimal for the proper development of the grapes, which reached maturity on time. The 2018 vintage is therefore a very qualitative one in Bordeaux. Burgundy wines from the 2018 vintage are often compared to those of 2009. The wines have significant aging potential. The 2018 Rhône wines are very successful, despite a difficult growing season. The white wines offer a wide aromatic palette and the red wines are dense and have tannins. The Crozes Hermitage, Côte Rôtie, Saint Joseph and Hermitage appellations started harvesting simultaneously.

Our advice for buying a 2018 wine

In Bordeaux, orient yourself towards the Médoc, Margaux, St Estèphe, Pauillac, St Julien and Pessac-Léognan appellations which are extraordinarily good as well as the wines of the Pomerol appellation.

In Burgundy, we recommend wines from the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits, in particular those from Aloxe-Corton, Maranges, Morey, Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle, Marsannay and Gevrey.

In the Rhône Valley, the reds from the Châteauneuf du Pape, Vacqueyras and Gigondas appellations are particularly good.
