Garde (La)
Château La Garde in Martillac is established on gravelly hillocks overlooking the commune of Martillac. This cru combines history and modernity, with its 18th-century Carthusian monastery housing cellars renovated in 2001. The Dourthe house vinified this 2004 vintage, which is well-typified both by its dark garnet color and its finely wooded bouquet. Fleshy and well-balanced, the palate is supported by refined tannins that suggest a potential for aging of five to six years, or even longer. Coming close to being a favorite, this wine will deserve dishes with character.
