17/20 Information on the 2003 vintage red Burgundy: Before the heatwave, the Burgundians were faced with frost which affected the entire vineyard at the time of bud break. From the outset it was clear that the harvest would not be plentiful. Then, as everywhere, the thermometer rose, the sunshine became overwhelming and drought set in. Under such conditions, it was inevitable that production would be quite heterogeneous. Clay and deep soils, like old vines, benefited from a real advantage. The winemaker's know-how appeared just as essential. When successful, the reds proved to be dense, tannic and muscular.
