(10.2018) The 2015 Cote Rotie Cote Brune boasts beautiful aromas of violets, herbs and raspberries, but wow, is this wine tannic. It's full-bodied but closed down tight on the palate. It's possible to admire the structure now—the crisp, refreshing acids, the firm, chewy tannins, the incredible length of the finish—but this will need 10+ years to loosen up. Yet I've no doubt that it will be stupendous 20 years out from the vintage and last for at least a decade more.

A brilliant, intoxicating nose that harnesses the ripeness of the vintage by melding riper, darker fruit tones with powerful dried herbs and peppery spice from the stems. Multi-faceted with sweet and savoury meeting in the middle. Smoky, with a rich texture from bold but ripe tannins, it manages crunch and sweetness at once. Outstanding.
